What Konstexpo is
Konstexpo is a Swedish fine art print studio and paper supplier based at Prästkragens väg 15 in Saltsjö-Boo. Alongside its web shop for papers and printing materials and its own print ordering service, it runs a print-on-demand arrangement for artists and photographers who sell their work online and want somebody else to produce and deliver each piece after it sells. The company's home page says it has worked with some of the world's leading FineArt papers since 2008, helping photographers, artists and print studios find the right material for their images. It opens with the phrase "Utskrivet på Hahnemühle" (printed on Hahnemühle), which it calls an expression that has become synonymous with quality.
The print-on-demand service is a partnership offer rather than a platform. There is no marketplace, no app and no product catalog of mugs or shirts. The seller keeps the shop and the customer, and Konstexpo handles the physical print once an order comes in. The site states plainly that the service is for Sweden only for now.
What a seller gets from the print-on-demand service
The print-on-demand page is titled "Print on Demand – Sälj konst och foto utan krångel" (sell art and photos without hassle). It is aimed at artists and photographers who want to sell art or photos online without handling the prints, the numbering, the packing or the shipping themselves. That list matters for a fine art seller: numbering editions and packing large paper prints safely are the jobs that eat an artist's time, and Konstexpo takes them on.
The division of labor is spelled out. In the page's words, "du som konstnär eller fotograf hand om själva försäljningen, medan vi sköter allt det praktiska efter att ett verk har sålts" (you as the artist or photographer take care of the actual sales, while we handle all the practical work after a piece has sold). Konstexpo is explicit that it does not compete with its sellers: "Vi säljer inte konst själva" (we do not sell art ourselves), so the artist keeps full control over their web shop, their prices and their brand. When an order arrives, the page says, Konstexpo takes over and handles the whole process from print to delivery.
The page lists how the arrangement works in four points:
- Printing happens only once the seller has an order, so nothing is produced for stock.
- Remote signing is offered ("Möjlighet till distanssignering"), which lets an artist sign work that is printed and shipped by the studio.
- Konstexpo gives advice on materials, pricing and packaging.
- The studio makes sure production follows agreed lead times and offers several shipping options for delivery straight to the seller's customers.
The words "agreed lead times" describe the model well. Turnaround is set in the agreement with each seller rather than published as a standard figure, and the same holds for the fee. On money, the page says "Vi tar överkomliga avgifter för tjänsten, och våra förmånliga portopriser erbjuds till självkostnadspris" (we charge affordable fees for the service, and our favorable postage rates are offered at cost). So the seller pays a service fee plus postage passed on at what it costs Konstexpo, with no margin added on shipping. No fee schedule appears on the page.
Getting started is done through a contact form headed "Kontakta oss om du är intresserad av ett samarbete" (contact us if you are interested in working together), which asks for a name, an email address, a phone number and a comment. The company also lists two phone numbers, +46 (0) 70 744 25 92 and +46 (0) 708 30 51 50. There is no self-serve signup and no store integration named on the site; a seller should expect a conversation first.
Konstexpo presents the service as open to beginners and established names alike: "Vi hjälper både nya och etablerade kreatörer att växa" (we help both new and established creators grow), and it says its capacity and focus on quality let it handle both small and large volumes.
The print and materials side behind the service
What makes Konstexpo different from a general POD supplier is that it is first a fine art paper house. Its web shop carries papers and materials from Hahnemühle, Canson, Awagami, PermaJet, MediaJet, Epson, Ilford and Diatec, together with sample packs, an outlet section and downloadable ICC profiles. For a seller that means the choice of paper for a print-on-demand edition can be made from stock the studio already works with every day, and sample packs let an artist handle the papers before deciding.
The home page shows several of those products with shop prices. The prices were displayed in Swiss francs through the site's currency selector: Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 g from CHF 18.00, Hahnemühle German Etching 310 g from CHF 38.00, Hahnemühle Hemp Gloss Baryta 305 g from CHF 66.00, Canson Edition Etching Rag II 310 g from CHF 37.00, an Awagami sample pack at CHF 19.00 and Hahnemühle Protective Spray in a 400 ml can at CHF 28.00. These are shop prices for materials, not print-on-demand fees, and the shop offers 5 percent off when a buyer takes three or more items.
The studio's print service sits beside the shop. The site has sections to order prints, to upload an image, for FineArt and photo prints, for paper types and canvas with their print prices, and for mounting, framing and canvas prints. That gives a print-on-demand seller a range beyond a bare sheet of paper: canvas and mounted or framed work are part of what the studio produces.
The home page also names artists and projects it has been trusted to print: Erik Berglin, Oliw87, Takashi Murakami, Pettson och Findus, Ai WeiWei, Jan Stenmark, Sonja Hesslow, Moga, Arne Berneklint, Bo Lundgren for SAS, Jan Lööf and Lasse Åberg. For an artist weighing whether a small studio can produce fine art prints to a high standard, that list is the clearest statement of the work it does.
The site runs in Swedish, Danish and Finnish, and visitors are welcome at the Saltsjö-Boo premises, though the company asks people to get in touch before coming so that someone is there.
Where it ships
The print-on-demand page is direct about scope: "Just nu gäller Print on Demand endast inom Sverige" (right now, print on demand is available within Sweden only). The studio is in Saltsjö-Boo, and deliveries go to customers in Sweden with the shipping options agreed with the seller.
Who it suits
Konstexpo suits Swedish artists and photographers who sell their own work online, want fine art papers such as Hahnemühle Photo Rag, and would rather hand over printing, edition numbering, packing and delivery than do it themselves. The remote signing option will appeal to artists selling signed prints, and the advice on materials, pricing and packaging helps someone setting up print sales for the first time. Established artists with steady demand benefit from a studio that says it handles both small and large volumes.
It is a narrower fit for anyone whose customers are mostly outside Sweden, since the service is limited to Sweden for now. Sellers who want automatic order routing from a store platform, a published fee table or merchandise such as apparel and mugs should look at larger POD platforms. Konstexpo is a personal fine art partnership, and its strengths are the papers and the hands-on production.
