What PIGS is

PIGS Digitaltrykk is a fine art print studio in Oslo that has produced giclée prints since 2013 and describes itself as a Hahnemühle Certified Studio. Its home page says the studio is "drevet av kunstnere" (run by artists) and has particular expertise in edition prints and print on demand. It works for artists, photographers, galleries, businesses and private customers, and alongside art and photo printing it offers wallpaper, mounting, framing, scanning and photographing of artwork, image editing and certificates of authenticity.

The print-on-demand page is written for artists and creators. It explains the idea simply: PIGS prints "ett og ett eksemplar" (one copy at a time), exactly when someone orders. For shops, galleries and brands that need ongoing production, PIGS stores the files in its archive and says it keeps quality consistent from the first print to the last, whatever the edition size. It ships to all of Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

How the print-on-demand service works

The page walks through the process in 6 steps.

  1. The image. It can start as an analog original or a digital file. For originals, PIGS offers professional scanning and photographing in its studio.
  2. The file. The rule of thumb is 300 ppi at the actual print size, and PIGS checks each file and says if something needs adjusting. It prefers TIFF or PNG, accepts high-quality JPEG, and also takes PSD and PDF files exported in high resolution.
  3. Format, paper and edition. The seller decides whether to sell one at a time or set up a limited edition, for example of 20 copies. PIGS helps choose on the website, by email or at a meeting in the studio.
  4. Test print and approval. PIGS mostly prints on Hahnemühle FineArt paper with pigment ink that it says lasts over 100 years. Production time is "typisk 2–3 arbeidsdager etter godkjent fil" (typically 2–3 working days after the file is approved).
  5. Signing and white borders. Many artists choose a white border for signature, title and edition number. Artists living outside Oslo can arrange a stamp or a pre-arranged signature that is kept at the studio for incoming orders.
  6. Packing and shipping. Prints are packed in acid-free paper and sent to the artist or straight to the artist's customer without PIGS branding. PIGS also offers a Certificate of Authenticity to accompany the prints.

For an ongoing partnership, the FAQ says the seller delivers the files once, PIGS archives them and prints each time an order comes in, with "Ingen minstekrav til volum, ingen bindingstid" (no minimum volume, no lock-in period).

Ordering and integrations

Orders go through the PIGS web shop, where the seller uploads the file, picks paper and format, and PIGS prints and ships. Uploads can be up to 2 GB per file. The FAQ is direct about store connections: PIGS has no automatic integration with platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce, but many customers order through its web shop, and the studio invites sellers to get in touch for a more tailored setup. A seller running an online shop should plan to place each order in the PIGS shop.

Prices and a worked example

PIGS publishes a price calculator for its web shop, priced by square centimeter, with formats from 20×30 up to 160×210 cm in qualities from budget poster to FineArt. It also gives a worked example. A seller sells a 50×70 cm print in photo quality (200-270gsm) for 1400 kr in their own shop. PIGS's net price in the web shop is about 440 kr per print, and shipping is 200 kr, so PIGS's share is 640 kr and the seller's gross margin is about 750 kr per print before platform costs. The page says these prices include production, quality control and neutral white-label packing. Special items such as signing, certificates or custom packaging are agreed separately, and PIGS says it can offer better purchase prices at higher volume and for regular launches.

Test prints are available on A4 sheets for kr 170 including VAT on any paper, or the seller can order a single print in full format as a normal order.

For white-label sellers there are 2 add-ons: shipping stickers with the seller's logo (10 round matte vinyl stickers of 5 cm, up to 2 designs per order) and a personal A6 thank-you card printed on the same paper as the order, with a short text of up to 120 characters. Each costs kr 119 including VAT and is only available with a print order.

Papers, formats and extra services

The paper range is wide. The web shop lists poster papers, photo papers, velvet papers, smooth and textured FineArt papers, glossy FineArt papers, Japanese papers and FineArt canvas, mostly from Hahnemühle with Canson, Awagami, Epson and others. For art prints PIGS suggests Photo Rag, Museum Etching or William Turner depending on the image. Canvas can be delivered flat or stretched on a frame, though stretched and mounted items are not sent by post. Prints go up to 160×210 cm, and the home page gives the maximum roll width as 162 cm on an Epson SC-P20000 10-color photo printer.

Scanning covers paper originals up to 90 cm on the short side, and photographing covers originals up to 200 x 200 cm. The studio mounts prints on Kapa, Alu and Dibond, and framing is done in a framing workshop in Oslo in cooperation with Galleri Artifix.

Shipping, customs and support

All shipments are tracked. Prints up to 110 cm on the long side travel in tubes or flat packaging. Shipping costs 200 kr in Norway and NOK 250 to Denmark and Sweden, with free shipping over 1500 kr in Norway and 2000 kr to Denmark and Sweden. Delivery to Denmark and Sweden normally takes 5–8 working days including production. For orders under EUR 150, VAT is already included, and PIGS marks shipments with the correct value and an IOSS number. In Oslo, customers can collect at Christian Krohgs gate 34 or use a courier for urgent or large jobs. PIGS replaces prints damaged in transit if the customer photographs the damage and packaging on arrival.

The studio is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:00, and can be reached on 474 50 250. The home page shows a rating of 4.8 on Trustpilot from 71 reviews. The page also reminds sellers that printing other people's images requires written permission from the rights holder.

Who it suits

PIGS suits artists, illustrators, photographers and galleries in Scandinavia who sell prints under their own name and want Hahnemühle fine art papers, careful file checks and the option of numbered limited editions. The published price example makes margin planning straightforward, white-label shipping with branded stickers and thank-you cards helps a small brand look professional, and the no-minimum, no-lock-in terms suit artists testing a new edition.

It fits less well for high-volume shops that need orders to flow automatically from Shopify or WooCommerce, since orders are placed in the PIGS web shop, and it is built for prints rather than apparel or merchandise.
