What Art of Where is

Art of Where is a Canadian print-on-demand company that prints, cuts and sews its products in its own facility in Montreal and ships them to the customers of artists, designers and small brands. A comparison of Canadian suppliers on merchize.com describes it as "a Canadian print on demand company with a production facility in Montreal" that "handles printing, cutting, and sewing in house, making it one of the few providers that manufactures entirely in Canada." A Printful blog post on Printify alternatives, written by a competitor, calls it "a truly Canadian-made solution" that "handles all production in-house" and describes it as "ideal for artists and designers who want to offer premium, locally made goods." Art of Where's own help center, available in English and Canadian French, explains the model in one line: "You create and sell your products while Art of Where handles production and fulfillment as orders are received." The facts in this entry come from that help center and from third-party articles, each named where it is used.

What a seller actually gets

The catalog leans toward printed fabric and sewn goods rather than blanks with a logo on the chest. Merchize's comparison puts the range at "145 products, including tops & bottoms, baby & youth apparel, dresses & robes, underwear, accessories, bags & totes, home & living, stationery, and fabrics." The Printful post singles out "impressive cut-and-sew apparel like leggings and bomber jackets," and a roundup on mockey.ai lists the product groups as tops, bottoms, dresses and robes, accessories, tote bags, home and living, stationery and fabrics.

Production happens in one place. The Printful post says Art of Where "manages its own production facility in Montreal," which gives it "full control over the quality of their unique products, from fabric printing to sewing and shipping." Merchize's summary says the same: printing, cutting and sewing are completed in Montreal. The flip side is time. Merchize notes that "Because every order is produced individually, Art of Where has one of the longest production times among POD suppliers," and that in return "its fabric quality and print quality are consistently rated highly by customers."

Orders reach the company through a store connection. Merchize and mockey.ai both list Shopify, Etsy, Big Cartel, WooCommerce and BigCommerce. Big Cartel's own blog says it "integrates with two print-on-demand services: Printful and Art of Where," and that these services "plug right into your shop, so they can start producing items as soon as an order comes in, and they can ship directly to your fans." Art of Where's help center has a section on Big Cartel, with articles on connecting a store, and describes Big Cartel as used by "Many independent artists and small brands" to sell "custom printed products without the complexity of traditional inventory management." The Printful post, which competes with it, lists "Limited eCommerce integrations" among the cons.

Design and mockups happen in the company's own tools. Big Cartel's blog explains that a seller can "upload a logo or other image, place it on a product and size it till you like how it looks," and that "Art of Where has a 3D generator to give you and your customers a clear understanding of what will be made." Merchize names a "Design Lab for realistic product mockups," and mockey.ai lists a Photo Lab feature as the mockup generator.

Pricing and branding

The Printful post says there are no monthly fees and that sellers pay only for the products they sell, and it says base prices are "competitive for the quality offered, with all transactions in Canadian dollars." Merchize gives a starting point: "Starting from $3 (wholesale pricing starts at $2.40)." Mockey.ai's summary says the upfront cost is not mentioned in what it reviewed. Neither source ties those starting prices to a named product. The comparison table in the Printful post lists Art of Where's pricing currency as C$ CAD and its local fulfillment as "Yes, in Montreal," and names it best for "Unique, high-quality, and Canadian-made apparel."

For branding, the Printful post says Art of Where "Offers customizable labels, artist cards, and stickers for a small additional fee to help build your brand." For samples, Merchize lists a "25% discount on the first sample order."

Production and shipping times

The third-party figures differ, so each is given as its source states it. Merchize lists "1–4 business days for production, 2–7 business days for domestic shipping, and 7+ business days for international shipping," adding that "Duties and taxes vary by destination." Mockey.ai gives a shipping speed of 5 to 10 business days. The Printful post lists "Shipping may be slower to Western Canada" as a con, and mockey.ai says the complaint that keeps coming up is shipping: because the company is based in Canada it is not the fastest option, and orders to customers in the US or overseas can take longer to arrive. Merchize says the platform "primarily serves sellers targeting customers in Canada and the United States."

What sellers report

The reviews agree on quality. Mockey.ai calls Art of Where "an underrated print on demand site, but surprisingly solid," says people describe the fabric items and clothing as good quality with professional prints, and sums it up as excellent quality with slow shipping, worth it for a brand that depends on high-end prints or apparel. In its FAQ the same article says sellers "praise their print quality and fabric-based products," that the products "are well-made and reasonably priced, and the Etsy integration works smoothly." The Printful post lists its pros as "Proudly Canadian, based in Montreal," "In-house production for high quality," and "Unique products like cut-and-sew apparel," and its cons as a "Smaller product catalogue than larger platforms," slower shipping to Western Canada and limited integrations.

Who it suits

Art of Where suits an artist or designer who wants artwork on sewn products as well as prints: leggings, dresses and robes, bomber jackets, fabrics, stationery and bags, all made to order in Montreal. It suits a seller with Canadian customers who wants a Canadian-made story and pricing in Canadian dollars, and a Big Cartel or Etsy shop owner who wants orders to flow straight to production. Merchize's own FAQ describes the common setup: "Many use a local provider such as Art of Where for their core products in Canada."

It is a weaker fit for a seller who needs fast delivery to US or overseas buyers, since the reviews flag shipping speed, or for one who wants to sell across marketplaces beyond the five listed store platforms. A brand that wants the lowest possible cost on basic tees will find the made-to-order, sewn-in-house model priced for quality rather than volume.
