Who It Is

Common Goods Printshop is a small New Zealand print business, trading as Common Goods Printshop LTD, that prints apparel, caps and bags and ships them across the country. Its footer puts it plainly: "Located in Northwest Auckland, shipping Nationwide." The homepage greets visitors with "nau mai haere mai, welcome" and describes the business as "Fast, Affordable Custom Printing for T-Shirts, Hoodies, Tote Bags, Caps, Oversized, Vintage Style, Boxy Cuts and More - NZ-Wide!" The strapline on the print-on-demand page sums up the model in eight words: "We supply blank AS Colour, print and ship."

The company runs several services side by side. A seller-facing print-on-demand and dropshipping service sits next to bulk custom merch for clubs, schools and bands, live event printing, DTF transfers sold to people who press their own, and a set of merch stores. For this directory the print-on-demand service is the core: it lets a creator sell designs on garments without buying stock, with Common Goods printing each order in Auckland and sending it to the buyer.

What A Seller Gets

The print-on-demand page is titled "Dropship with us" and describes a "full-service POD (aka dropshipping) platform" that lets a seller "sell your ideas, designs or merch without any setup expenses or storage needs." The promise that follows is "We'll do all the heavy lifting, you focus on building your brand." Five points are listed under the service: set your own prices, choose your own profit margins, "No captial needed 100% positive cashflow," secure hosting included, and a custom domain name. Read together, the hosting and domain points mean the offer is a hosted store for the seller's merch rather than a plug-in for an existing shop, which fits the "Merch Stores" section in the site menu and the "Open a Store now" contact form at the bottom of the page.

Four more promises describe the terms. "No minimums" comes with "Every order gets printed! No minimums or maximums with this service." A "Wholesale discount" gives sellers "access to our wholesale prices - more money in your pocket." Under "No waste or storage needed" the page says "you only print what sells, so there's no stocking and most importantly, no waste." And the turnaround is given as "5 day turnaround," with "All Print on Demand orders are shipped with tracking numbers."

The blanks for this service are AS Colour. The product pages each carry the AS Colour label and a Customize button next to the size and color picker, so a design can be placed on the garment in the shop itself. The four products shown as popular products on the site come with prices in New Zealand dollars and GST included:

  • Wo's Relax Hood (Oversized), $65.00. Relaxed fit, mid weight 320 GSM fleece in 80% cotton and 20% recycled polyester, pre-shrunk, pullover hood, drop shoulder, kangaroo pocket, self-fabric lined hood, no drawcord and ribbed cuffs. Sizes XS to 3XL, shown in Ecru.
  • Wo's Relax Crew (Oversized), $59.00. The same 320 GSM fleece and relaxed fit as a pullover crew with drop shoulder and ribbed cuffs. Sizes XS to 2XL, in Ecru.
  • Two-Tone Carrie Tote, $29.95. Heavy weight 320 GSM cotton canvas with reinforced shoulder straps and one large main compartment, one size of 42cm by 42cm with a 9.5cm gusset, in Army/Cream.
  • Surf Cap, $29.95. A mid profile unstructured snapback in light weight recycled nylon with a single front panel, quick dry fabric, plastic snapback and tonal under-peak lining, one size fits all, in White.

The cart notes that GST is included and that shipping is calculated at checkout, so the site gives no flat shipping rate.

Print Methods And The Bulk Side

The homepage shows the decoration methods the shop runs. It lists 1 color and 3 color screen printing, puff printing, DTF transfer on caps using a heat press, and custom woven patches as an embellishment. The copy also mentions digital prints, textured puff designs and raised 3D effects. The bulk service heading reads "screenprint / embroider / transfer," so embroidery is part of the bulk offer.

Bulk custom merch targets orders of "20, 50, 100+ garments or a batch of retail ready merch," with sportswear, schoolwear and music merch named as typical jobs and "Huge discounts for larger print runs." For bulk work the stock range is wider than the print-on-demand blanks: the page says the shop offers the "full range of AS Colour, American Apparel, Gildan, Cloke, Comfort Colors and Urban Collab for bulk orders." A seller whose design takes off on print on demand can therefore move to a screen printed run with the same printer.

The DTF service sells full color transfers to press at home, either as single images or, for better value, by the meter, with an upload form for designs. Live event printing appears in the menu as a separate service. The homepage closes with four service promises: fast customer service, a free design review for every order, quality tested garments and "Satisfaction Guaranteed." Contact runs through info@commongoods.nz and an order form, and the footer links to an FAQ and to terms titled "T's & C's - Print Policies."

How An Order Flows

A seller asks to open a store through the form on the print-on-demand page. Products are set up on AS Colour blanks with the seller's artwork, and the seller picks the retail price and margin. When a customer buys, Common Goods prints the item in Northwest Auckland within the stated 5 day turnaround and ships it with a tracking number. There is no stock to fund and no minimum per design.

The site names no integration with an outside store platform, and it gives no fee or commission for the hosted store. Delivery is described as nationwide within New Zealand, and the site says nothing about sending orders abroad.

Who It Suits

Common Goods suits a New Zealand creator, band, club or small brand that wants to sell AS Colour garments, totes and caps under its own name without paying for stock, and that values a local printer it can email directly. The same shop can take a proven design into a screen printed or embroidered bulk run, or sell DTF transfers for pressing at home. It suits less well a seller who wants orders from an existing online shop to flow in automatically, since the service is built around a hosted store, or a brand selling to customers overseas, since shipping is described as nationwide only. The pages publish no base cost list for the print-on-demand service beyond the retail prices shown in the shop.
