Fuel is a print-on-demand fulfillment company that runs as an app for Shopify stores. Its homepage pitches "Fast, affordable POD fulfillment" and "factory-direct pricing on hundreds of print-on-demand products", and its site describes the service as a "fulfillment App for Shopify Power Sellers". The fulfillment company's address is in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it ships from what the homepage calls "our multiple fulfillment locations". The catalog covers T-shirts, sweatshirts, polos and other apparel from Bella + Canvas and Next Level, plus mugs, tumblers, posters, canvas, flags, blankets, doormats, hats, bags and ornaments. It suits Shopify sellers, from new stores to what the blog calls "Power Seller" accounts, who want to see their product costs before they sign up.

What a seller gets

Fuel's homepage lists six things that set it apart. "Lower Prices": factory-direct pricing, "meaning you'll make more money from the same sales". "Fast Shipping": "Quick and reliable shipping from our multiple fulfillment locations." "Top Brand Names": "From Bella + Canvas to Next Level, offer the apparel your customers want to buy." "Made for Shopify": "We are invested in building the tools to enable your store to grow." "Workflow Automation": "Spend less time designing your products and more time marketing them." And a "Quality Guarantee": "Our QA team checks every order to prevent errors and unhappy customers."

The order flow runs through the Fuel app. A seller installs it on a Shopify store, creates products from Fuel's catalog with their artwork, and Fuel prints, packs and ships each order after a customer buys. The company's blog says there is no membership fee to use it, pointing out that many fulfillment apps on the Shopify App Store are free "just like Fuel does", and that it "requires no upfront investment or technical expertise to start." The blog's related posts announce a standalone Fuel app, a QuickShip service with an enhanced catalog experience, and expedited shipping. The homepage menu also lists an inventory page and a help center.

Print methods and delivery times

Fuel's blog names three decoration methods and gives a standard delivery time for each:

  • Direct-to-garment (DTG). "Great for detailed graphics! This method is perfect for 100% cotton-made apparel with high-definition artwork." Standard delivery is 2 to 5 business days.
  • Sublimation. Used "on mugs, posters, and phone cases, using heat and pressure." Orders are "Delivered in less than two business days."
  • Embroidery. For simple designs or text "with a sophisticated finish". Standard delivery is 2 to 5 business days.

The product pages confirm that posters, mugs and flags are sublimated, and each one lists its maximum print area in inches and pixels, with a sizing chart and a downloadable design template.

The print areas are specific enough to set up artwork before ordering. The 11 oz white mug takes a 2.5 x 3.8 in print (750 x 1140 px), and the 15oz black mug a 3x3.66 in print (900x1089 px). Posters print edge to edge at their stated size: the 16x20 poster calls for a 4800 x 6000 px file, the 20x30 for 6000 x 9000 px, and the 24x36 for 6600 x 9900 px. The vertical hanging flag has a 30.5x40.5 inch print area, an inch larger each way than the finished flag.

Pricing

Fuel publishes its prices. Every product page shows a standard price and an intro price, and the notes at the foot of the catalog explain the terms: "Intro Prices are for your 1st 30 days or 50 orders following in-app activation", prices "are flat across all colors and include 1 print", and "Extra artworks is $5 for all DTG products." The blog suggests using the intro period to order samples and check print quality before selling.

Some examples from the top-sellers page:

  • Mugs. The 11 oz white ceramic mug is $3.80 standard and $3.20 intro. The 15oz black ceramic mug is $6.20 standard and $5.00 intro.
  • Posters. Gloss and matte posters come in a long run of sizes. An 11x14 poster is $3.45 standard and $2.99 intro; 12x18 is $3.87 and $3.35; 16x20 is $5.53 and $4.79; 18x24 is $6.58 and $5.70; 20x30 is $7.96 and $6.89. Landscape versions mirror the portrait prices, so 14x11 matches 11x14 and 20x16 matches 16x20, while 20x24 and 24x20 are both $7.15 standard and $6.19 intro. The 11x17 ($4.20), 16x24 ($5.95) and 24x36 ($8.95) sizes carry the same price at both levels.
  • Flags. The 11.5" x 17.5" garden flag is $7.25 standard and $6.89 intro, with a 12.5x18.5 inch print area. The 29.5" x 39.5" vertical hanging flag is $16.00 standard and $14.95 intro.

For a seller, that means the margin on a mug or poster can be worked out from the public price list before installing the app, and the intro prices lower the cost of the first month of testing.

The catalog

The product menu is split into classic unisex T-shirts, premium fit men's T-shirts, premium fit ladies' T-shirts, long sleeve tees, unisex tanks, V-neck T-shirts, youth T-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts and a fleece scarf, then mugs, tumblers, posters (gloss and matte), canvas, blankets, doormats, flags, hats, bags and ornaments. The homepage names Bella + Canvas and Next Level as its apparel brands. The top-sellers page leans toward wall decor and drinkware, with 16 poster sizes, two mugs and two flags.

Support

The blog calls Fuel's support team "dedicated and fast" at solving inquiries and questions, and says its customer service team is "well-known for its ability to solve any inquiry in the short term." The site has a help center and a contact page.

Who it suits

Fuel suits Shopify sellers, especially those selling posters, mugs, flags and core apparel, who want published prices and a low-risk trial. The intro pricing for the first 30 days or 50 orders makes it cheap to order samples and test products, and the flat price across colors keeps apparel costing simple. Sellers who want quick sublimated goods benefit from the under-two-business-day delivery the blog gives for that method.

The main limits are the channel and the range. Fuel is built as a Shopify app, and its pages describe no connection to other store builders or marketplaces. The catalog is compact, centered on apparel basics, wall art and a handful of home and drinkware items. Each extra artwork on a DTG product adds $5, which matters for designs printed on more than one side.
