Merchr is a UK print-on-demand and dropshipping platform for people who want to sell their own merch without holding stock. Its homepage sums up the offer in four lines: "Free and easy to set up", "No need to hold any stock", "Printed on demand in the UK" and "Dropship straight to your customers". The catalog runs from t-shirts, hoodies and joggers to tote bags, drinkware, notebooks, aprons and wall art, with a strong lean toward organic, recycled and Fairtrade cotton. The company, Merchr Limited, pitches itself at creators, musicians, sports clubs, charities, universities, coffee shops, visitor attractions and online retailers, and offers either a ready-made store or a connection to a shop the seller already runs.
How selling through Merchr works
The homepage breaks the process into "3 simple steps": choose products from the on-demand library, add a design (one of Merchr's categorized ready-made designs or the seller's own artwork or logo), then launch the store and tell your followers. Merchr then prints each order when it is sold and packs and ships it to the buyer. The homepage lists what the company takes on: "We handle packing & shipping", "We print on demand in full colour" and "We hold your inventory".
The site offers four ways to sell, set out under "Choose How You Sell":
- Store Package, described as "A fully integrated 'out of the box' website, ready to go!" and offered free to sellers without a shopping website.
- WooCommerce, a "Two way integration with your online WordPress store".
- Shopify, a "Two way integration with your online Shopify store".
- API Access, "Free API access for bespoke website integration", arranged by contacting the company.
Elsewhere the homepage repeats that "We integrate with Shopify, WooCommerce, and have a full public API".
Behind every channel sits the Online Hub, which the site describes as "A portal for owners to manage products, collections, categories, print methods, shipping, designs, artwork and more". The hub promises two-way synchronization with the seller's online store, "Really simple profit and VAT calculation displays" and "full ownership of your own customers". Store owners can build their own collections, and a Live Personalisation feature lets a seller add a text field so buyers can put a name or initials on a product and preview it live. One WooCommerce customer quoted on the homepage uses exactly that to let clients personalize the merch they sell.
The hub also works for the seller's own orders. Under "Easily order for yourself" the site says sellers can design products and order them through the hub, shipped to any address, and lists three uses: "Great for ordering samples", selling in person at events, and buying "at the lowest cost price available".
Pricing model
Merchr charges nothing to join. The homepage states "Free forever - no upfront or monthly costs", "You'll only pay once you've sold" and "Simply cover manufacturing, printing & shipping", and the closing banner repeats "No subscription required". The seller sets the retail price.
The site gives a worked example: a custom t-shirt sold at £20.00, with £9.00 taken to print and ship it, leaves £11.00 profit. It goes on to claim that 10 sales a day would bring in £770 a week, which is the company's own arithmetic on its own example.
Catalog prices are published on every category page, with the note "Prices shown are inclusive of VAT". A selection:
- Clothing: Kids Midweight Cotton T-Shirt £8.99, Cotton T-Shirt £10.39, Cotton Premium T-Shirt £12.34, Organic Cotton T-Shirt £12.22 to £13.05, Stone Wash Organic Cotton T-Shirt £14.70, Hoodie £22.76, Premium Hoodie £24.64, Zipped Hoodie £27.90, Organic Heavyweight Sweatshirt £27.18 and Organic Cotton Unisex Joggers £34.75.
- Bags: Cotton Tote Bag £8.66, Fairtrade Cotton Wine Bottle Bag £9.14, Organic Cotton Tote Bag £10.83, Fairtrade Cotton Deck Bag £12.94, Organic Cotton Boat Bag £13.94 and Extra Large Recycled Cotton Shopping Bag £15.00.
- Drinkware and other lines: Double Walled Drinks Tumbler 530ml £7.30, Two Tone Mug £9.59, Large Metal Bottle Flask 800ml £13.45, Soft Feel A6 Mini Notebook £4.89, Soft Feel A5 Notebook £5.62 to £6.62, Cotton Tea Towel £8.08 and Fairtrade Cotton Apron £16.32.
The site does not say in so many words whether these listed prices are the seller's cost or a suggested retail price, so a seller should read them together with the £9.00 example before setting margins.
The catalog
The catalog index counts Clothing (51), All New (45), Eco Friendly (32), Wall Art (26), T-Shirts (26), Drinkware (18), Bags (11), Sweatshirts (7) and Hoodies (6), with smaller Notebooks and Homeware groups. Clothing covers adult and kids t-shirts, polos, a tank top, sweatshirts, quarter-zips, hoodies, joggers, trainer shorts, a varsity jacket, a baby bodysuit and a baby tee. Many product names carry the material: organic cotton, acid wash and stone wash organic tees, recycled cotton bags, Fairtrade cotton aprons and bags. Each product page offers several colors, sizes or both.
Social responsibility claims
Merchr describes itself as "a socially conscious company". Its Social Responsibility section argues that printing only what is sold means "no excess production that ends up in landfill", that local production reduces shipping distance and carbon emissions, and that expanding its eco-friendly range and packaging is "our main goal". It says it is "aiming to become certified in eco-friendly responsible packaging", which means that certification is a goal rather than something it holds today. These are the company's own statements.
Support
A "Speak to an Expert" button invites questions before a store is set up, and the footer links to a Help Centre and FAQs, a Contact Team page and a "Suggest a Feature" form. Homepage testimonials praise the setup; one store owner, Verity R, says "the team were quickly on hand to help with any questions", and another, Tana D, writes that "Within days it was live and was great to see orders coming through!" The site gives no production or delivery times.
Who Merchr suits
Merchr fits creators and organizations with an audience but no shop: a band, a club, a charity or a coffee shop can open the free store package and sell without holding stock or paying a subscription. The organic and Fairtrade range suits sellers whose buyers care about materials, and printing in the UK suits sellers whose buyers are in the UK. Shopify and WooCommerce store owners can add the catalog through the two-way integrations, and the live personalization feature is useful for gift and name products. Developers can build on the free API.
The platform is less of a fit for sellers who need marketplace connections, which the site does not list, or who want published delivery times before committing. The catalog is broad for apparel and bags but thin in homeware, with two items listed.
