Print API

Print API is a Dutch print-on-demand printer, based at Osloweg 57 in Groningen, that prints and ships books, wall decorations, photos, cards, gifts and office products for businesses that sell through their own website or app. Its English site sums up the model as "You sell, we print and ship throughout Europe", and its Dutch site as "Jij verkoopt, wij printen en versturen" (you sell, we print and ship). Print API is built first for developers and web shops: orders arrive through a REST API, a web plugin or an embedded design tool, and the company prints them in its own facility and sends them to the buyer in plain packaging.

How it works

Both the English and Dutch homepages set out the same four steps:

  1. You sell your designs through your own website or app.
  2. Print API prints and ships the products. The English site adds "worldwide".
  3. Your customer receives the products "white-label", which the Dutch site describes as "blanco verpakt" (plainly packed).
  4. You receive your profit periodically, which the footnote defines as "Revenue minus production and fulfilment costs". The footnote adds that the REST API also supports invoices.

That last point describes the money flow: in the standard setup the seller is paid out periodically, after production and fulfillment costs are deducted from revenue, while sellers who prefer to be billed can use invoicing through the REST API.

The homepage lists what the company offers in short claims. "The gateway to Europe": the Netherlands is "internationally highly regarded as the gateway to the rest of Europe". "In-house production": "Due to our in-house production facilities we can offer default products and custom work." "Print on demand": "there is no need for a stock in Europe". "No manual orders": "All orders will be directly sent to our fulfilment team." And "Easy to integrate": "Easy shop integration in all coding languages."

Ways to connect

Print API offers four connection options, listed on its Dutch site under "Mogelijkheden" (options): REST API, Web plugin, Instant Design Tool and Marketplaces.

  • REST API. Described as "The solution for developers. Print-on-demand for your app or website! No starting or monthly fees." The Dutch page says the REST API sends orders "direct naar onze drukkerij" (straight to our print shop). The account menu offers free registration and separate Test and Live environments, so a developer can build and test an integration before sending real orders.
  • Web plugin. The Dutch homepage says "We hebben ook een webplugin" (we also have a web plugin) for selling "je eigen boek, magazine, foto's of designs" (your own book, magazine, photos or designs) with print-on-demand.
  • Instant Design Tool. "Let your customers create", or in the Dutch version "Maak van je klanten ontwerpers" (make your customers designers): the tool is integrated into the seller's own web shop so buyers can design unique, personalized products themselves, and the finished order goes to Print API for printing.
  • Marketplaces. Listed as an option without further detail on the homepage.

Products

The product menu on the Dutch site covers Boeken (books), Wanddecoratie (wall decoration), Foto's (photos), Cadeau's (gifts), Kantoor (office) and Kaarten (cards). The web plugin text points at books, magazines, photos and designs, which suits authors, photographers, illustrators and small publishers. Print API says its in-house production lets it offer "default products and custom work", and the posters page invites contact for "een afwijkend formaat of product" (a non-standard format or product).

Posters and published prices

Posters are the one line where Print API publishes a full price list, excluding VAT. Posters come in standard and HD quality, with a matte or gloss finish. Large-format posters (A0 to A2) are printed on 140-gram paper and shipped in tubes, smaller posters (A3 and A4) on 210-gram paper, and HD posters on 250-gram gloss paper.

Standard posters, each in portrait and landscape:

  • 20 x 30 cm and A4: €3,51, with each extra print of the 20 x 30 cm format also €3,51
  • 30 x 40 cm and A3: €3,80
  • 40 x 50 cm: €5,80
  • A2: €5,90
  • A1: €8,40
  • A0: €9,24

HD posters:

  • HD 30 x 40 cm: €5,49
  • HD A2: €8,33
  • HD 60 x 90 cm: €11,66
  • HD A1: €11,91
  • HD A0: €17,41

The posters page has a calculator for shipping, handling, production time and delivery by destination country, with standard and express ("Spoed") options. Express carries a surcharge of 7% on the product costs. The destination list in that calculator is not limited to Europe: it runs through destination country codes from AD to ZW, among them US, CA, AU and JP, which matches the English homepage's line that Print API ships "worldwide". The posters page itself promises posters "In hoge kwaliteit gedrukt en snel geleverd" (printed in high quality and delivered quickly). For large runs, "Voor hoge oplages is volumekorting mogelijk" (volume discounts are possible for high print runs), quoted on request.

Those prices make the poster line easy to plan around. An A3 poster at €3,80 or an A0 at €9,24 before shipping gives a seller a clear base cost to price against, and the HD range offers a premium tier on heavier gloss paper for photo and art prints.

Support

Print API lists a phone line and an email address in its footer, with office hours of 8:30 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. The site runs in Dutch at printapi.nl and in English at printapi.io, and the English site adds FAQ, References and About pages.

Who Print API suits

Print API fits developers, agencies and web shop owners who want a European printer behind their own site: a photo app that sells prints, a publisher selling books on demand, a personalization shop using the design tool, or an art store selling posters with published base costs. The free API with test and live environments, the absence of start-up or monthly fees and the plain-packed shipping all serve that seller. Sellers with non-standard formats or larger runs can ask for custom work and volume pricing.

It is less of a fit for sellers who want a broad catalog of apparel and drinkware, or a detailed public price list beyond posters. The public pages name books, wall decoration, photos, gifts, office products and cards, and the integration options assume a site or app the seller controls.
