Displate is an online marketplace for metal posters: artwork printed on steel plates that hang on the wall with a magnet, made in the EU and shipped worldwide. Independent artists sell their designs on it alongside officially licensed collections, and customers can also upload their own images for a custom print. The homepage's About section says: "Founded in 2013, Displate is a metal poster company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, and Warsaw, Poland." It describes the business as "the world's leading online marketplace for collectible metal wall art, offering artist-made posters and officially licensed designs across pop culture." For an artist, the offer is a single, distinctive product and a large audience of collectors, with an "Earn with Displate: Sell your art" program linked from every page footer.

What an artist sells on

Every design on Displate becomes the same product, which makes it unlike a general print-on-demand shop. The "What's a Displate?" page calls it "a one-of-a-kind metal poster designed to capture your unique passions" and "a 21st century canvas that's sturdy, magnet mounted, and durable enough to withstand a lifetime of intense staring." The homepage adds that each design "is printed on durable, wall-ready steel" and is "designed to last for decades."

The product page lists the features in short lines: crazy durable, vivid colors, tactile texture, extremely detailed, collector's delight, thick and steel, quality checked, handmade in the EU, bent edges, a hologram of authenticity, gift ready, safe for your walls, and easy to set up, switch and combine. The printing is described as "3D printed on metal in a unique way."

Mounting is the product's main selling point. The homepage promises "Tool-free, magnet mounting included," and the product page says "it only takes 20 seconds to set them up with no power tools, no damages, no frustrations." The homepage describes the result as a way to "hang, swap, and stun in seconds," with "No frames, no drilling."

Sizes, finishes and frames

Buyers pick the look, so an artist's single design is sold in several versions. According to the homepage, "Available in M, L, and XL, Displate metal prints fit any space," from a medium poster for a desk or shelf to "extra-large metal wall art spanning four connected plates for an epic centerpiece."

There are three finishes: matte, gloss, and Textra, which the homepage calls "our signature textured wall art finish, for added depth and detail." Frames come in five options on the product page: None, Black, White, Natural Wood and Graphite. The page notes that "Displates stay the same size with or without a frame."

The marketplace and the artists on it

The scale is the draw for a seller. The homepage says Displate has "over 200 officially licensed collections and 40,000+ independent artists," "over 2.5 million designs," and "over 5 million fans worldwide." The product page gives its own figures: "Over 2 million Artworks," "4.3 mln Collectors around the globe," and "Over 4 million Website visitors monthly."

Licensed collections sit next to independent work. The homepage names franchises including Marvel, Star Wars, The Witcher and One Piece, and the fandom menu lists NBA, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings and Fallout among others. Shoppers browse by category (Anime, Gaming & Fantasy, Movies & Shows, Cars, Nature & Landscapes, Sport) and by artist.

Artists who stand out can earn a badge. The product page describes Verified Creators as "Creativity with a badge. Find original designs from recognized talents." The main menu features verified creator collections such as Fantasy Animals by Louise Goalby, Dreamy Surrealism by LUCIDITY, Vintage Futurism by Frank Moth, Enchanted Cats by Leandro Francisca, Mythic Collection by Ikaruna, and Japan Aesthetic by Ruby Art. Promotions sometimes target them directly: the homepage ran "UP TO 25% OFF verified creators" alongside offers on gaming designs and anime.

The homepage's Top Searches list is a useful guide to what shoppers look for beyond fandoms: cat posters, art deco, aesthetic, retro, 80s and 90s, minimalist movie posters, travel, space, Japanese, vintage, motivational and black and white posters all appear there. For an independent artist, those are open themes where original work competes on its own terms rather than against licensed art.

Limited drops tie into current fandoms too: a homepage banner announces "FRIEREN: BEYOND JOURNEY'S END NOW IN LIMITED EDITION," next to a heading that reads "OFFICIAL METAL POSTERS FROM 200+ FANDOMS."

The community also shows in the "Get inspired by our community" gallery, filtered by interests from books, space and anime to music, comics, fantasy and travel, and in the company's channels on Reddit, Discord, Pinterest, Facebook, X and TikTok.

Other ways Displate sells

Beyond single posters, Displate sells in several formats:

  • Limited Editions: "Exclusive designs. Unique finishes. Limited runs. Once they're gone - it's forever." The homepage also mentions Ultra-limited Editions.
  • Sets: buyers can pick a set of three Displates that, in the homepage's words, "tells a story across your walls."
  • Displate Club: a membership with "free shipping, permanent discounts and new Displates every 12 months."
  • Custom Displates: "Turn anything you love into premium metal posters. Upload your pics and let your moments shine!"
  • Gift Cards and gift inspiration pages, plus Mounting Accessories.

Delivery, returns and payment

The buyer-facing promises are the same across the site: "Made in EU. Great quality.", "Returns within 100 days" with "Easy return, no questions asked," "Fast delivery" described as "At your door in a few days," and "100% Secure payment with 256-bit SSL Encryption." Displate says its designs are "shipped worldwide." The footer links to order status, Shipping & Returns, Help/FAQ, a right of withdrawal page, mounting instructions, a copyrights page and a US pricing policy.

On reviews, the product page shows 4.7 /5 on Trustpilot, "Excellent," based on 18592 reviews, and "97% of all clients are delighted with their Displate experience."

The company

The newsletter notice names the legal entity: "Displate, i.e. GWD Concept Sp. z o. o. with a registered office in Warsaw." Support is reachable through a contact page and support@displate.com. The footer also links to a blog, careers and an accessibility statement.

Who it suits

Displate suits illustrators and digital artists whose work fits fandom and collector culture: anime, gaming, fantasy, film, surrealism, animals and retro styles. The site is organized around those interests, and the licensed collections bring in fans who then browse independent artists' work. Because every design becomes the same premium steel product, an artist does not need to manage a catalog of products, only the artwork.

The limitation for a seller is that it is a one-product marketplace: your design sells as a metal poster and nothing else. The homepage and product page do not set out the earnings terms of the Sell your art program, so read them before uploading a portfolio.
