Zazzle was founded in 2005 by Robert Beaver and his sons Jeff and Bobby, with the platform's first version built while Bobby was a student at Stanford, and it's since grown into one of the larger names in the marketplace segment. Its defining feature is a template system: rather than selling a design exactly as the artist uploaded it, shoppers can customize colors, text, and layout themselves within limits the artist sets, which suits categories like wedding invitations, business cards, and personalized gifts where every buyer wants something slightly different.

That customization focus means Zazzle's strongest categories aren't necessarily apparel, stationery, greeting cards, and personalized home goods do particularly well, though the general merch catalog is broad too. Artists set royalty rates within Zazzle's allowed range and get paid on that structure once a sale closes, with Zazzle handling production and fulfillment. It's a strong pick for a designer working in invitations, cards, or gifts where the ability to let a customer personalize the final product is the actual selling point, more than for someone selling a fixed illustration.
